Roll with the music

Today was to be a busy Sunday.  I am teaching a new class at church, of adults after many years of only teaching children.  Thursday, 3 days ago I was ask about confirmation class that would begin immediately after church, was to be 2 hours long, and how could the attention and interest of my autistic daughter best be held for that time, good question.  And today at 3:30 was her piano recital!  All was really going nicely though and in between class and recital we had a nice down time break at home.  I was pleased.  Time to go slipped up on us all and we juggled to quickly get out the door.  I could in my brain hear my daughter telling me that "I choose different" but a fast glance revealed everything in it's place, in fact we all looked good and if we left immediately and I could find the new recital address on my phone I was sure we would be on time and all would be good!
Her time came to play and she proudly walked up to the piano, turned to her teacher and said, "I choose different music".  She stated this simply and sweetly as I watched the look of shock and weakness cross her teachers face.  It was a 3 page piece that she had never played all the way through until today and she played it beautifully, was extremely proud of herself, and continues to repeat, "I choose different".
Thank the good Lord for old parents and a kind teacher who all know how to "roll with the music".
